today I hate the color.... BLUE Hey everybody. I happened apon this (amazing) poem online the other day and I thought I'd share it with you. It's by Kira Taylor and I got it off the Scholastic website.
UNTHINKING he mused over chipped black-painted fingernails On rough charcoal paper And came to the conclusion that Innocence wasn't a state of mind But a list of people with unlisted phone numbers And clarity is the sound fingers make When in contact with anything fluid. White-out in the phone book wasn't enough. So he learned to think backwards And spent many hours in the tub Building fleeting water figures with his hands. Afterwards he'd press his confused textured fingertips to glass And leave wet palm-kisses on the window When he started talking again He fell in love with 12 two syllable words eleven adjectives, one noun. When he lost movement He would hum great concertos, Perfect pitch and muffled vibrato And we would listen because He had his own gravity. The one thing he told me Before he became unborn Was that the end of the world happened yesterday And we're all just sitting here Too in love with breathing to remember.
